Steel yachts are chosen for reliability and strength. This hull can handle rough seas and even ocean crossings. If needed, repairs are possible in any port, making it a practical option for long journeys.
On the other hand, steel is heavy and needs regular protection from rust. It insulates less well than fiberglass. Owners must be ready for ongoing care and attention.
This Blauwvoet features a classic mahogany interior. Upgrades include new teak in the side decks (2015) and a renovated coachroof. All electrical systems were replaced in 2018.
The Bukh DV20 engine was overhauled in 2018. The propeller shaft, stern tube, and external bearing were replaced in 2020. The boat has a Victron inverter and automatic charger for modern power management.
Sail handling is practical with four winches and a high aspect jib. The standing rigging is partly upgraded to Dyneema. There is an all-round winter tent and a removable swim ladder.
Steel yachts are not for those seeking simplicity. They suit sailors who value a tough, honest boat and are ready for long-term care.
